What type of high quality Knifes should I buy?

Hi,

I am looking at buying some new knifes… I like to cook and have always wanted nice knifes, but I am on a budget. I was thinking about spending 50 bucks on a nice Knife for cutting meat, and 50 on a nice knife for cutting vegetables. I have used a ceramic knife before and I thought it was good, but I have seen them priced around 70?!!! Why are these so expensive? And then I will just buy 4 cheap steak knifes.

Is it really worth it to buy a nice 80 dollar Wusthof Knife on ebay or online somewhere??? Any advice is appreciated or suggestions on what I should do. I mainly want to get the best value for my money though!!!

I have bought the cheapest knives avail. One I’ve had for like 30 years, from GreenStamps catalog, and only sharpened them once, they were serrated.

The best one I’d recommend are the ones that DON’T COME as a set. Look for one that FEELS GOOD when you’re chopping, slicing, dicing. You just can’t buy them online, you need to try them out, like a dress, to see how they feel when you’re holding the knife.

We have three different brands, and I took them for our salad prep. for 3,000 people, and I get lots of compliments on the one with green handle. I’m not home right now so I can’t tell you which one.
