The Air Force 499 Survival Knife is used Quite extensively by the U.S. Air Force and the U.S. Army, and it’s considered the standard by which all other survival knives are measured against.  The Air Force 499 Survival Knife comes with a dull, rust resistant finish and is made of carbon steel. This quality knife also comes equiped with a deep-grooved leather handle, providing a reliable surface that’s easy to hold onto even with slippery hands.

The Air Force Survival Knife has a butt end made of steel so that it can be used for hammering. and the cross guard has two strategic holes in it that allows you to make a spear for hunting food and protection.  The overall length of the entire knife is 9-1/2″, with a 5″ blade.  It has a leather sheath with a belt loop and plenty of holes which let’s you to tie it down to almost anything and in about any position.

The Air Force Survival Knife also has a metal reinforcing plate to protect the knife tip, and a side-pouch that carries a sharpening stone. If you’re looking for an inexpensive, no frills, high quality survival knife, this is definitely one you’ll want in your gear pack.
